Tamworth Golf Course, designed by Hawtree & Son, was officially opened in September 1975 by the then Minister for sport The Rt. Hon. Dennis Howell MP.
The 18 hole mature parkland course is a Par 73, 6488 yards in length and is popular with both experienced golfers and beginners alike. It also hosts a number of ProAm and national junior and senior external tournaments.
This municipal course is a good test of golf and attracts praise from all levels of players at the challenge posed by the course. Indeed, it really does belie its public pay and play status with some excellent holes and tricky hazards to overcome if you are to record an impressive score.
The surrounding countryside and views across four counties makes it one of the most attractive in the Midlands. There is no need to be a member or hold a handicap certificate. Subject to availability, although you are strongly advised to book, you can just turn up and play! An effective short game could certainly be necessary to provide a solid scoring card; the great variety of holes, greens and tree lined fairways is bound to provide a strong test for golfers.
